World Water Day is a day to turn the spotlight on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation – which aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

The theme for this year’s day is ‘Groundwater, making the invisible visible’1 and the good news is that we can support this goal through the investment choices we make. At Holden & Partners we work with WHEB, a specialist investor that seeks to have a positive impact on the environment and society, and Water Management is one of their core themes, supporting the UN’s SDGs.

In their 2020 Impact Report, among the other positive impacts made across these themes, they cite 2.8bn litres of wastewater treated and 750 million litres of water use avoided as part of their impact on Water Management.2

WHEB hold three companies which show the wide variety of ways investing to improve water management can have an impact.

  1. Advanced Drainage Systems is a leading provider of stormwater management systems in the US. They have a clear mission: ‘Our reason is water – We’re proud to help communities create sustainable solutions for stormwater management – working towards a cleaner, greener tomorrow.’ http://adspipe.com/
  2. ECOLAB, named one of the world’s most ethical companies for 16 consecutive years, is a global leader in water, hygiene and infection prevention. They have created products and services to advance food safety, maintain clean and safe environments and optimize water and energy use in a multitude of industries in more than 170 countries around the world. http://ecolab.com/
