The climate change debate has had many pivotal moments, red alerts and lines in the sand but now, as COP27 is underway, it feels like the challenge faced by Earth and its inhabitants is becoming ever more pressing.

Over the last few years, the extent of global warming and its consequences have been pushed down the agenda by the Covid Pandemic, the war in Ukraine and economic turmoil. However, the impact of a rapidly warming planet is becoming more apparent all the time with severe flooding, wildfires and drought becoming ever more normalised. Just this year, we have witnessed significant flooding in Pakistan and Nigeria whilst we are also seeing that 22 million people in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya now facing starvation as the worst drought in 40 years takes hold. On top of that we know that the Arctic is melting at 3 times the global average, to the point that its very existence could soon be threatened.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless when faced by stark realities like this, but at Holden & Partners we believe that each of us can play a part in reversing climate damage by choosing to invest in an environmentally sensitive way which recognises both the scale of the problems and the opportunities ahead. That’s why we are launching our Sustainable Investment guide to outline our approach.
