Holden & Partners today announced that we have become a signatory of the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), adding to our B Corp credentials and Chartered financial planner status.

By adding our name to the 5,000 global signatories who have agreed to put into practice six principles for responsible investing, we are demonstrating our commitment to the PRI’s central belief:

‘We believe that an economically efficient, sustainable global financial system is a necessity for long-term value creation. Such a system will reward long-term, responsible investment and benefit the environment and society as a whole.’

The signatories of the PRI, as the network is known, collectively have more than $120 trillion in assets under management and all seek to use responsible investment to enhance returns and better manage risks.

“Holden & Partners was founded on sustainable principles nearly 20 years ago. Since then, we have witnessed a movement in support of ESG issues in the financial sector” said Paul Dennis, Holden & Partners’ Investment Director, “it feels more important than ever that we are building the principles into our bedrock, and encouraging others to do the same, in order that we make positive and meaningful change across the industry.”

David Atkin, CEO at the Principles for Responsible Investment, comments: “We’re very pleased to welcome Holden & Partners as a signatory to the PRI. The process of investors embedding responsible investment practices into their activity is a vital step towards the realisation of a sustainable global economy, which works in the interests of both investors and their beneficiaries. We look forward to continuing this important work with Holden & Partners in future.”

The six key principles in full are:

  • We will incorporate ESG issues into investment analysis and decision-making processes.
  • We will be active owners and incorporate ESG issues into our ownership policies and practices.
  • We will seek appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the entities in which we invest.
  • We will promote acceptance and implementation of the principles within the investment industry.
  • We will work together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the principles.
  • We will each report on our activities and progress towards implementing the principles.

The PRI was formed in 2005 when then-UN Secretary General Kofi Annan asked a group of the world’s largest institutional investors to help draft the Principles for Responsible Investment. The 20 people in the investor group — drawn from institutions in 12 countries — were supported by an additional 70 investment, governmental, social and environmental experts and the PRI was launched in April 2006 at the New York Stock Exchange.
