Solar Starting to Shine.Reports Stuart Ryan, 9th August 2010Bloomberg reported last week that although the UK is not known for its glorious weather it enjoyed record installations of solar panels in July after the government introduction of the feed in tariffs to guarantee prices for electricity from renewable energy up to ten times market rates. Ofgem reported that Photovoltaic panels with the capacity to generate 4.6 megawatts were fitted last month which according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, who forecasts the UK’s solar market will increase 12-fold this year, is more than in the whole of 2009. The government on April 1 introduced feed-in tariffs that fix above-normal prices for electricity from small installations of wind, solar and hydro power. Companies ranging from the German utility E.ON AG to Tesco Plc, the biggest U.K. supermarket, have entered the market as well as Sharp Corp.
